The Journey at a Glance

Tour Overview

This is the most complete journey in the collection. It combines northern Kenya’s rare species, Ol Pejeta’s conservation work, the plains of the Maasai Mara and Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire’s elephants and baobabs. Strategic flights reduce road fatigue, while two-night and three-night stays provide enough time to understand each ecosystem.

Your Safari Journey

A DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 01:

Arrival in Nairobi

Receive a private airport welcome and transfer to the selected Nairobi hotel. The Migsam Safaris representative reviews flight timings, baggage allowances, border documents and the seasonal Serengeti plan. No fixed sightseeing is included, allowing guests to recover properly before the safari begins.

Day 02:

Fly to Samburu

Transfer to Wilson Airport for the flight north. Samburu’s dry river country appears below before landing at the local airstrip. Meet the camp guide and begin wildlife viewing during the transfer. After lunch and rest, explore the Ewaso Nyiro corridor for elephants, leopards and northern species.

Day 03:

Full day in Samburu

Spend the morning searching for Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk and Somali ostrich. These animals make Samburu an important addition rather than a duplicate of the southern parks. Return for lunch during the heat, then head out again as elephants approach the river and predators become more active.

Day 04:

Samburu to Ol Pejeta

Travel by road or private air arrangement to Ol Pejeta. The route approaches Mount Kenya and increasingly green Laikipia country. After lunch, take an afternoon drive focused on rhinos and the conservancy’s wider wildlife. A night drive may be added after dinner.

Day 05:

Ol Pejeta conservation experience

Visit the chimpanzee sanctuary and join a prebooked conservation activity such as northern white rhino viewing, lion tracking or rhino monitoring. The activity is balanced with a full wildlife drive so the day remains a safari as well as an educational visit. Private arrangements are recommended for guests who want additional time with the conservation team.

Day 06:

Fly to the Maasai Mara

Transfer to the airstrip and fly to the Maasai Mara. The camp vehicle meets the flight and begins game viewing on the way to the property. After lunch, explore either the national reserve or a private conservancy, depending on the accommodation selected.

Day 07:

Maasai Mara wildlife day

Start early for big-cat activity and soft light. The programme follows wildlife rather than a fixed route, with time for patient observation and photography. During migration season, the guide may travel toward the river or major herd concentrations. At other times, resident lions, cheetahs, leopards and elephants remain the focus.

Day 08:

Second full day in the Maasai Mara

Use the second complete day to explore a different habitat or repeat a productive area without pressure. Optional ballooning, a guided walk, a private bush breakfast or a conservancy night drive can be included according to camp location and guest preference.

Day 09:

Maasai Mara to Serengeti

Begin the regional air transfer from Kenya to Tanzania. Immigration and the change of aircraft make this a substantial travel day, but it avoids a much longer road journey around the ecosystem. Meet the Tanzanian guide after the final flight and continue to the seasonal Serengeti camp.

Day 10:

Full day in the Serengeti

Begin the regional air transfer from Kenya to Tanzania. Immigration and the change of aircraft make this a substantial travel day, but it avoids a much longer road journey around the ecosystem. Meet the Tanzanian guide after the final flight and continue to the seasonal Serengeti camp.

Day 11:

Second full day in the Serengeti

A second full day gives the guide freedom to travel farther, wait at a sighting and plan around light. The focus may shift from migration herds to resident predators, elephants, giraffes and smaller species. Guests may carry a picnic or return to camp, depending on the location of the best activity.

Day 12:

Serengeti to Ngorongoro

Take a final morning drive before travelling toward the Ngorongoro highlands. The route remains productive for wildlife and may include Oldupai Gorge if desired. Arrive at the crater rim or nearby highlands with time to rest before the early descent.

Day 13:

Ngorongoro Crater to Tarangire

Descend to the crater floor early and explore its grassland, lake, forest and wetland areas. After a picnic lunch, climb out and continue to Tarangire. The journey is long but brings a major change of scenery, ending among baobabs and elephant country.

Day 12:

Tarangire safari and departure

Use the morning for a final Tarangire game drive along the river and surrounding habitats. After lunch, drive to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport. The international flight should depart late in the evening; otherwise, add an Arusha night rather than forcing an unsafe connection. Zanzibar and other beach extensions can begin the following day.
