12 Days / 11 Nights
Nairobi, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Arusha
Comfort private road safari
Migration travellers photographers couples and experienced safari guests
$16,279 per person
This seasonal itinerary follows the northern migration ecosystem without rushing between river areas. Three nights in the Maasai Mara and three in Northern Serengeti create time to respond to herd movement, while Central Serengeti adds reliable predator country. River crossings remain natural and unpredictable, so the programme is sold for the whole migration experience rather than a guaranteed event.

A DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
Meet the Migsam Safaris team on arrival and transfer privately to the Nairobi hotel. The day is reserved for rest and a personal safari briefing. Depending on arrival time, an optional Nairobi activity can be arranged, but the programme does not depend on it. Guests flying with camera equipment receive a reminder about light-aircraft baggage limits before the northern journey begins.
Transfer to Wilson Airport and fly to the airstrip serving the selected camp. A camp guide meets the aircraft and begins wildlife viewing during the transfer. After lunch and time to settle in, head out again in the softer afternoon light. The first drive concentrates on resident wildlife and current herd locations rather than travelling immediately to crowded river points.
Leave early with breakfast or a picnic, based on the camp location and recent wildlife reports. The guide may spend time near the Mara River, on the plains used by wildebeest and zebras, or with resident lion and cheetah families. Waiting is part of migration viewing, and the day is kept flexible so guests do not abandon a promising area simply to meet a fixed mealtime.
Use a second full day to cover a different section of the ecosystem or return to an area where the herds are gathering. This extra time is important because migration movement changes with rainfall and river conditions. A balloon safari can be arranged before sunrise, followed by breakfast in the bush. Guests in a conservancy may instead choose a quieter morning drive, guided walk or night activity.
Transfer to the airstrip for the regional connection. The journey normally involves Kenyan exit formalities, a short road transfer between immigration points and a Tanzanian flight onward to the Serengeti. It should be treated as a transfer day rather than promised as a full game-drive day. The Tanzanian guide meets the final aircraft and transfers guests to camp, with wildlife viewing en route if daylight allows.
Begin before sunrise and explore the northern plains and river system. The guide follows herd movement, predator activity and road conditions, remaining in productive areas for as long as necessary. River crossings cannot be scheduled. Even without one, the concentration of wildebeest, zebras, crocodiles, hippos and predators provides a substantial day of wildlife viewing.
Return to the field early with the freedom to travel farther from camp or wait near an active herd. The second full day reduces the pressure to chase reports and gives photographers time to work with light, behaviour and quieter scenes. Lunch can be carried in the vehicle, allowing the guide to adjust the programme throughout the day.
Travel south through the Serengeti, using the transfer as a complete game-viewing day. Habitats change from northern woodland and rolling country to the broad central plains and river valleys. Stops are made for wildlife and a picnic lunch. Arrive in the central region by late afternoon, where resident predators provide a different focus from the migrating herds.
Explore the Seronera Valley and surrounding areas at an unhurried pace. Leopards often use riverine trees, lions patrol the plains and cheetahs favour more open country. The guide may start before breakfast and return to camp for lunch, or remain out with a picnic when sightings justify it.
Enjoy a final Serengeti drive before heading southeast toward Naabi Hill and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route may include a stop at Oldupai Gorge when time and guest interest permit. Continue to a lodge on the crater rim or in the highlands, where the cooler air and forested slopes contrast with the Serengeti plains.
Descend into the crater soon after the gate opens. Morning light and lower traffic improve the experience, and the guide searches grassland, forest and wetland habitats for lions, hyenas, elephants, buffalo and black rhinos. After a picnic lunch, leave the crater and drive to Arusha for the final night.
Enjoy breakfast and a private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport at the time required for the international flight. Guests continuing to Zanzibar can use a domestic connection from Arusha or Kilimanjaro, depending on the selected schedule.
