Gombe National Park

Gombe National Park is a narrow stretch of forest tucked into steep, mountainous terrain, where deep valleys descend to the shores of Lake Tanganyika. The park is best known for its chimpanzees, made famous by the groundbreaking conservation research of Dr Jane Goodall. Kahama Hill

The highest point in Gombe offers breathtaking views and a rewarding hike. The hill used to be primarily known as the former territory of the Kahama Chimpanzee Community. Best Time to Visit

The Best Time to visit Gombe Stream National Park is during the dry season, from June to October. This is when chimpanzees are most active and easier to spot. However, the rainy season (November to May) brings lush greenery, fewer tourists, and increased bird activity, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers.

How to Get There

Gombe Stream National Park is accessible by a 30-minute boat ride from Kigoma Town, which is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Kigoma Airport, the nearest airport. Regular flights from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma are available. Alternatively, visitors can travel by road from major Tanzanian cities to Kigoma.
