Begin with a morning flight from Zanzibar to Arusha before travelling through Maasai country to Tarangire National Park, where ancient baobabs, seasonal wetlands and the Tarangire River create a spectacular setting for wildlife viewing. Enjoy a private game drive through varied habitats, with elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions and other wildlife often encountered along the way.
The following morning, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for an early wildlife drive across its remarkable grasslands, forests and wetlands. A DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
Movement Flight about 1 hour 15 minutes; road transfer about 2 to 2.5 hours
An early transfer takes you to Zanzibar Airport for the flight to Arusha. Your guide meets you on arrival and drives southwest through Maasai country to Tarangire. After lunch, explore the river valley, baobab country and seasonal marshes, where elephants are often the leading sighting. Leave the park before closing and continue to the Karatu highlands for dinner and a quiet night.
The landscape changes noticeably as the road enters Tarangire’s baobab country. Wildlife often gathers near the river and remaining water, but the guide also explores woodland, open grassland and swamp edges to give the day ecological variety rather than concentrating on one busy viewing area.
A private vehicle allows longer stops when behaviour is interesting and an earlier departure when a quieter section is more productive. Lunch arrangements follow the day’s route, and the drive to the overnight lodge begins with enough time for a comfortable arrival.

Leave after an early breakfast and descend to the crater floor soon after the gates open. The morning is planned around the best available wildlife activity, with time near the Lerai Forest, open grasslands and permanent water. After a picnic lunch, ascend and drive to Arusha Airport for an evening flight to Zanzibar. The final schedule is matched to the confirmed flight so the crater visit is never presented as a full-day drive.
Descending from the highlands reveals the scale of the caldera and a distinct mix of habitats below. The private vehicle moves between grassland, woodland and wetland areas, with the route adjusted for traffic, road conditions and fresh information shared among professional guides.
The crater visit normally occupies the central part of the day, including a picnic lunch. After the final drive, the vehicle climbs back to the rim and continues only as far as the confirmed schedule can comfortably support, avoiding an unrealistic late arrival.
