Simon Maguga – Founder & CEO, Migsam Safaris
My name is Simon Maguga, and I am the founder of Migsam Safaris. I was born in the Mara Region, in Tanzania’s Lake Zone. Growing up there meant that nature and community were never distant ideas to me. They were part of normal life.
For more than ten years I have worked in and around the Serengeti and Ngorongoro areas. Over that time I have met travellers from many parts of the world, worked closely with people in tourism, and spent a great deal of my life around places that many people only get to visit once.
Migsam came from that experience, but the name itself comes from somewhere much more personal.
The name Migsam was created from parts of my grandfather’s and my father’s names. I chose it because I wanted to carry something of them with me in the company I was building.
Both of them loved nature. They also cared deeply about the people around them. Helping neighbours and supporting the community was simply part of who they were. I grew up seeing that, and it stayed with me.
So when I started Migsam Safaris, I did not want the company to be only about selling trips. I wanted it to remember where it came from.
Working for many years around Serengeti and Ngorongoro taught me that a safari cannot be reduced to a list of animals or places. Every day is different. Wildlife moves, weather changes, roads change and sometimes the best part of a day is something nobody planned.
That is one reason I believe we should listen to a guest before we build an itinerary. Some people want long game drives. Some are travelling with children. Some are on honeymoon. Others have been saving for years for one chance to see Tanzania. The plan should make sense for the person who is actually travelling.
Giving back to the community is important to me because it is connected to the values I learned from my father and grandfather. Tourism depends on people and places. If Migsam grows, I want local people to feel part of that growth too.
We may not be able to solve every problem, and I do not want to make big promises just for marketing. But we can employ locally, work with Tanzanian partners, support useful community initiatives and keep looking for practical ways to contribute as the company grows.
When someone books with us, I want them to feel that there are real people behind the company. I want them to know who is meeting them, where they are going and that somebody is paying attention if something changes.

She believes that the best itinerary shouldn’t feel as though it came from a catalogue. It should reflect the people actually travelling – what excites them, how they prefer to travel, the pace they enjoy and the memories they hope to take home.

With seven years of tourism experience, Francis brings mature destination knowledge and a thoughtful approach to safari design. His strength lies in looking beyond individual parks and seeing the journey as a whole – considering travel distances, wildlife seasons, accommodation locations, game-viewing opportunities and the natural flow between destinations.
Whether designing an adventure through Tanzania’s Northern Circuit or helping travellers decide how much time they should dedicate to the Serengeti, Francis focuses on creating journeys that are exciting without feeling rushed.

Suleiman brings four years of tourism experience together with the perspective of someone who understands Tanzania as home. His approach goes beyond recommending famous destinations.
